This is a rare Juliet cap made in the 1920s. What makes it remarkable are two things. First it is made of gelatin sequins - which are rarer and harder to find in such extraordinary condition. The gelatin will actually melt if it encounters heat or water. Second most of these are made on netting - this gives the sequins a base upon which to apply them. This one (and the other found with it) was made by hand applying sequin after sequin on a cotton cording - gold under the gold and black under the black - and then forming and stitching the resulting bands of sequins into the cap as you see it. Amazing and a rare piece of fashion history!
One size fits all.
